Fashion, Confidence, and the Life You Deeply Desire
What we wear has more to do with who we are than we realize.
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about why clothing matters so much to women, and I don’t think it’s actually about clothing.
Because after years of working with women and now owning Closet Concierge, I’ve realized that most conversations in fitting rooms aren’t really about fashion at all.
They’re about identity.
A woman will walk out and say, “This just doesn’t feel like me anymore,” and what she’s really expressing usually has very little to do with the outfit. More often, it reflects something deeper. Somewhere along the way, many women become disconnected from themselves. Life gets loud. Responsibilities pile up. Expectations, comparison, motherhood, careers, heartbreak, survival mode. That inner voice that once knew exactly who we were and what we desired becomes harder to hear.
I recently came across the word desiderio, which is tied to the idea of deep longing and desire, and something about it stopped me in my tracks because I think many women have become disconnected not only from themselves, but also from what they deeply desire for their lives. Not superficial desires, but the deeper ones. Purpose. Creativity. Freedom. Confidence. Peace. Connection. The feeling that your life actually belongs to you.
And strangely enough, I think the closet often reflects that disconnect long before we consciously recognize it ourselves.
